How to cancel queued jobs?

Hi All,

Can anyone please let me know or instruct on how to more effectively cancel jobs that have been queued in BE 2012?

The tapes appended instead of overwriting, effectively filling up the allocated tapes, so I now need to cancel all jobs and start again.

The way I'm doing it at the moment is giving me Repetitive strain injury (RSI) as I have to wait for a job to start and then try to cancel it multiple times as it takes up to 5 min per job cancelation.

The tapes were set to overwrite on 21 days, 3 x weekly set and the 1 x monthly set. Am I right to think that they should have been overwritten if they are blue and it said that the tape is not append-able but they are over-writable?

Regards

Whether your job appends to the tape or overwrite the tape depends on your job setting.  You should set your jobs to overwrite.  In addition, to prevent your job from appending to your tape, set the append period in your tape media set to 1 hour.

Thanks for the reply.

Let me understand this,

If I set the tape overwrite to 1Hr  and the first job takes longer than that, and let say it fills only ½ the tape, will the next Queued job append to ½ used tape or will it start using the next tape?

Am I correct in assuming that if the tape is overwriteable and appendable at the same time, then the append takes precedence over overwriteable?

AP and OPP are 2 different settings and is measured differently.  See this document for a better understanding

OPP and AP explanation

If I set the tape overwrite to 1Hr  and the first job takes longer than that, and let say it fills only ½ the tape, will the next Queued job append to ½ used tape or will it start using the next tape?

It depends on whether the AP has expired.

Am I correct in assuming that if the tape is overwriteable and appendable at the same time, then the append takes precedence over overwriteable?

If the job is set to "append, otherwise overwrite", then the answer is yes.

You might also want to familiarise yourself with the Media Management section of the Admin Guide which can be found in the BE installation directory.
