How to change the DCS agent name ?

  • 1.  How to change the DCS agent name ?

    Posted Dec 23, 2014 12:17 AM

    Hi all,

We want to deploy DCS agent on ATM machines.

We put a text file in the %temp% and the file include the agent name.

We edit a silent install batch file with the AGENT_NAME and IPS_POLICY_GROUP agrument when we install the DCS agnet on the ATM machine.

The  installation of agents are very fine.

But we have another challenge,we will have some new ATM machines be implemented per-week.

We will install ATM program and DCS agnet in advance, but we don't know agent name at that time.

Can we change the AGENT_NAME and IPS_POLICY_GROUP on client agent after finishing the agent installation ?

We hope it can be achieved via a batch file command when every time machine boot.

I guess this should answer your question

What happens when the ip address and/or host name changes for a DCS/CSP agent?

    Hi,

    Thanks for your answer.

It's right if I change the ip and hostname then the client will still report to management server with new ip and new hostname.

But could you please tell me how to change the client "agent name" on the client ATM machine ? (not re-name in the console)

Does the client agent still report to management server with the original agent if I change the client "agent name" on the client ATM machine?

    Many thanks.

When you say Agent Name, are you not pointing to host name?

I can not open the URL.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=productlanding&key=54619

Because the customer recognize the ATM machines not by hostname.

They have the ATM name text file each machine, so we used the install agrument "AGENT_NAME" to give ATM name.

    %temp%\dcs\agent-winnt.exe /s /v"MANAGEMENT_SERVER=192.168.181.199 SSL_CERT_FILE=%temp%\dcs\Agent-cert.ssl  AGENT_NAME=LU0002 IPS_POLICY_GROUP=\MDS\7-11_winnt\2st -l*v+! %temp%\SISAgentSetup.log /qn"

ok instead of hostname customer have used the agent name to identify the clients, in that case I think  you need to re register the agent or edit in console.

    Thanks a lot.

But I don't know where to change the agent name.

I don't want to change it in console.

I can edit the agent.ini.But I can not save it.

It's the Endpoint Protection Technical Support link.

The agent name and the hostname can be different,

You can chane the agent name in the management console to whateher you want by right clicking the asset and selecting rename.  There are two different fields in the database; one for Hostname and one for Agent Name.

Agent name only applies to what you see in the Management console.  The hostname will always reflect what the asset is name via the OS and is not changeable within the management console.

Is this what you are looking for?

[Edit:  By default, Agent Name = Hostname at agent registration, unless you configure the Agent Name differently at install, either via a scipt or the installation interface]
