    HI

Is there a way to clear out old symantec files manually that the symantec manager may have created.  E.g. definitions, updates etc...

    I have symantec manager 12.1.4 installed on a windows server 2008 R2

I am strugglling for disk space and wanted to clear out any files that are not needed manually if at all possible.

Any comments on the matter greatly appriciated.

The SEPM should handle automatically so you want to be careful, se here:

I think the server is handling this but wanted to know if there was anything else i could do manually to reduce the size.

I have the number of backups to keep set to 2.  Is it wise to reduce this to 1?

Also I have a folder in the following location on the server:-

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\content"

Which is almost 10gb in size. and contains around 24 folders.  The date on some of thes folders is from 2012.  Do i need to keep all these?

Are the backups offloaded somewhere else? If so, no reason to keep more than 1

Yes, you need those folders in there since they are for different components. How many content revisions do you keep?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

    Q. Which is almost 10gb in size. and contains around 24 folders.  The date on some of thes folders is from 2012.  Do i need to keep all these?

--> Do not delete files manually, those will re-populate again. 10 GB size is acceptable size. In case if you think old files are stuck can run SEPM repair.

If we checked system requirements, followings are the recommendations for disk space:

Small Business Edition: 16 GB available minimum; 100 GB available recommended.
Enterprise version: 16 GB available minimum (100 GB recommended) for the management server; 40 GB available minimum (200 GB recommended) for the management server and a locally installed database.

    Reference: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH216260

However, in the latest version of SEP 12.1 RU5 new feature is introduced, Content Storage Optimization feature:

As part of the upgrade to SEPM 12.1 RU5, the SEPM converts all of the content from full definitions to delta definitions. This process is resource intensive and may take an extended period of time. After this process is completed, the SEPM will use significantly less disk space.

In a typical enterprise setup where 30 content revisions stored, the SEPM upgrade process must reduce 55GB of full content to under 2GB of delta content. This process requires significant resources to complete and is impacted by the performance of any available CPUs, CPU cores (physical/logical/hyperthreading), memory, and disks (I/O). On a server that performs multiple roles, stores larger numbers of content, or is otherwise resource constrained, this process may take a longer duration to complete.

Refer this article to find more info: The LiveUpdate content optimization and content storage space optimization steps take a long time to complete when upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 RU5

    The best ones are..

    1-DB backup

2-Data\Outbox\Import Packages -- Empty this folder

    3-Inetput\Email install pacakges...
