How to configure BMR for windows cluster with ms sql server 2005 (active-passive)?
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 1 comment
Hello!
I have 2 node(clustername-node-1, clustername-node-2) on cluster(clustername) and installed on cluster ms sql server 2005.
For backup databases i create ms-sql-server policy.
System installed on disk C: (for each node), Quorum on shared disk Q:, MS SQL Server installed on shared disk D:, databases on shared disks D:\, E:\, F:\ G:\, H:\, I:\, J:\, K:\, L:\
How to configure BMR for this cluster?

Hi,
I dont quite get your query.
Do you want to protect this cluster (i.e. the nodes in it) using BMR?
Or do you intend to setup BMR Master/Boot Server on this?
I assume its the former.
If thats indeed the case, I dont think that you need to do anything differently.
Install NBU client on each node and have a BMR Policy that takes a FULL System Backup of each node.
You might want to use exclude lists to keep BMR from backing up the shared storage data from each node so as to avoid redundant data in your backup (and I guess this shared data is of database which is protected via. a different policy already?)
This way NBU will backup:
1. Your system configuration including the LDM information about internal as well as shared disks.
2. Data of Internal disks which would be most crucial while restoring the nodes.
When you restore, use "System Only Restore" mode while doing a PTR if you dont want the shared storage disks to be touched by BMR.
Does this help? or else please provide more details about your requirement.
HTH,
Amol.
