These look like the unified
These look like the unified logs of NBU. Common question on the forums.
/usr/openv/logs is where Unified Logging is written (by default) and is controlled via the vxlogcfg command, which can be used to redirect to another location.
NOTE: I found the same directory to be large but not clearing out some old files, and found that it WAS purging files but only those relevant to NetBackup 6.5. I upgraded my Media Servers from 6.0 and previous vxlogs (6.0) remained and were not being purged. I found from my install_trace file in /usr/openv/tmp when I upgraded to 6.5 and just rm the files prior to that date. Thereafter vxlogging config should take care of the rest, based on your settings.
Review the settings on each of your media servers, and also what the master is set to with the command:
# Display vxlogview default settings for product 51216
vxlogcfg -p 51216 -o Default -l
There are a whole load of docs on Unified Logging (see at the end of my post but I have some one-liner tips first)
# This will show you what logs are found, the rest in openv can probably be deleted.
vxlogmgr -s -p 51216
# Set the default level of logging for all daemons
vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o Default -s DebugLevel=1 -s DiagnosticLevel=1
# Disable logging for all daemons
vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o Default -s DebugLevel=0 -s DiagnosticLevel=0
# Delete existing logs based on default settings Number of Logs value
vxlogmgr --auto --del -q

Seems to cause problems for a lot of users. Wonder if a "idea" will receive enough thumps up to get noted - if not already there

robust logging
Just a additional comment:
If you run into a "logging spree" enabling robust logging will prevent disk full conditions. Robust logging rotate a predefined number of logs. Size and number is a configurable parameter.

Thanks for all the Votes. I
Thanks for all the Votes. I shall be digging to see if there is any information avaible around these common quesions asked and post it here soon.
I've already posted one idea recently
and I dont want to post another one to seem like I'm out trying to get points.
But maybe it would be an idea to have folks below a certain number of posts (ie people new to the forum) go through some type of required quick FAQ before posting a question?
That might not be so popular, as it might prevent some easy answers, but it could possibly reduce the number of same-question posts we get.
The truth is out there
I really think this is extensively documented - it's just a matter of finding it. Stuart has a really good list of TechNotes in his post above.
The Troubleshooting Guides also contain an entire chapter on debug logs and reports, including how to move them to another directory or change the debug levels. (It's Chapter 3 of the 7.0 Troubleshooting Guide, for instance.)

For T_N's problem above:
I don't think you can delete logs that are in use. You would need to stop NetBackup and THEN delete the log files. Maybe adjust the logging levels way down - or off - at this point, too, before you restart NetBackup.
Upon further reflection...
Now that I take a closer look at T_N's log file filenames, some of them look like they're from December! ("091201" is 2009-DEC-01)
Those can't possibly be in use....could they?
So there must be something else going on there.
Let's go back to the obvious stuff:
This must be Windows - what version of Windows is it?
What version of NetBackup is on here? (Looks like maybe a few different versions over the past few months, maybe?)
Finally....when was the last time this server was rebooted?
my windown is 2003 , NBU
my windown is 2003 , NBU 6.5.3 , last reboot is Nov 2009 :)
