How to create Internal LiveUpdate server

    Hello Friends,

I am using symantec endpoint protection 12.1.4023.4080 latest version and I want to know the path of liveupdates where updates will be downloaded in the management server.

Can you tell me how to create a live update server internal so all clients should take the updates from that internal server.

You want them to get updates from the SEPM? Or a GUP? How many clients are we talking about?

He might want to set up a LUA (Liveupdate Administrator) if he's trying to setup a seperate update server. smiley

    Hello Brain,

We are having 250 clients, I am thinking to setup live update server separately. So, all the clients can take the updates from the internal server.

Now at presents we are having 100 clients live running so all the clients are getting update from management server. with in these month more clients are coming so I am thinking to perform a internal live update server separately.

    what you will say.

With such a small implementation, I'd personally recommend sticking with using teh SEPM to distribute updates to your clients.

Symantec recommendations regarding the LUA say:

LUA is not recommended for the following scenarios:

    • Updating any amount of clients through LUA instead of through a management server like Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)
    • Updating environments with less than 1700 unmanaged clients sharing the same Internet connection
    • Updating clients across WAN links

Along with further descriptions of when to use the LUA in the below article:

Hey i think here you can use GUP to distribute the update to clients

Please see the below link on which it discribes you abot GUP and how to setup GUP:

    Hi sainathn,

Stick with the SEPM.  It can most efficiently download and distribute what thousands of SEP clients need.

    Thanks to all,

Ya i will be using the same management server to get updates for the clients.

In the management server all the downloaded updates will be saved or only the updates will be installed.

if they are saving to the server can you tell me the path where the updates will be saved.

If updating via the SEPM, then please review the below articles on Content Revision management on the SEPM:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH92225
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96214

The definitions are actually kept 3 times (once in the DB and twice in the <InstallationDirectory>\Inetpub\Content folder), and are entirely managed by the settings within the console (so I'd recommend against messing with the folders).
