How to deassign a tape quickly?

I already expired all the images and deleted the copy 1 from the tape U01928. Based on my understanding, now the tape will be available for use. But it is still FULL from output of bpmedialist.

Then I'm trying to expire the tape by bpexpdate, but the command looks like stuck for long long time. Anyone now why? How to deassign the tape and return it to available state?

things to try

bpexpdate -deassignempty -force

If this does not work, try this:

vmquery -desassignbyid -m <mediaid>

Check if the media is not frozen

Yongkang, If you add the

Yongkang,

If you add the "version" of NetBackup to the question(s), it helps to resolve quicker...

NBU 5.x  or  NBU 6.x  ?

There are possible differences for each.

Yongkang, Run the following

Yongkang,

Run the following command, it will deassign the media ID.

vmquery -deassignbyid <media id> <volume pool #> 0

then you will need to run the following command afterwards.

bplabel -ev <media id> -d hcart -p <volume pool>

Question for jvisvardis

Why run the bplabel after?

I never bplabel my tapes unless I change the barcode on them.

Just wondering what it is the bplabel is doing for you?

I don't have to know how to spell....I work on Unix.
