How delete tape and make appendable

Created: 13 Jun 2013 • Updated: 13 Jun 2013 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have tapes that are reading "Not Appendable (End Marker unreadable)"

I understand this happens for various reasons. No problem.

My issue is that I want to make the tape available for new use.

I have "associated" the media to the Scratch Media set.  But the tape still says "Not appendable..."

When we had B.Exec 2010, I was able to RT click the tape and do a quick erase.

There is no option to do so here.

How can I get the tape to no longer be marked with "End marker unreadable"?

Screenshot attached shows tape # 000008 with the issue.

Scratch tapes are only overwritable and not appendable. You could run the first job with a overwrite setting and have them assigned to a mediaset that has a value of infinite allow append through that job.

Once that tape is in the "Scratch" media set, the "Not appendable" status is irrelevant, so it will get overwritten when needed.

If you put that tape in your robotic library, you should be able to right click on the slot and erase it.  Your screenshot looks like a media view and you need to be in the robotic library slot view.

If you find this is a solution for the thread, please mark it as such.

Hello there,

You should be able to Erase tapes from Backup Exec 2012.

In the Storage tab go to Robotic Library (not tape drive) >> Slots>>... select the required slot which has the tape to be erased.

Right click on that slot and run Erase Media now.

Thanks,

The tapes are "erasable' in the Robotic Library view. Thank you!
