Here you have the general supported migration paths:

General supported migration paths of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)

What version are you currently using?

    Hi,

There are two methods to move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) from one machine to another:

Method 1: if the SEPM server keeps the same IP and host name, you can refer to "Best Practices for Disaster Recovery with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager"

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag....

Method 2: if the new SEPM server has a different IP and host name, there are two alternatives:

    1. Use replication to install a new SEPM and keep the policy the same with old SEPM. See "How to move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one machine to another"

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104389

    2. Install a new SEPM, then use the Sylink file to establish communication between the new SEPM and the existing SEP client through sylink replacer tool.

Note : Sylink replacer tool is most commonly used option because it's easy to use.

Please go through following thread for more details:

ok, how about the client upgrade ?

I heard the latest is SEP 11 MR6 MP3 and it doesn't support direct upgrade ?

    @ John,

Older versions (versions prior to 11.0.6) are not supposed to be directly upgraded, if I can remember correctly. Though, I upgraded most of my clients from 11.0.5 to 11.0.6 -> 11.0.6 MP3  and haven't noticed any adverse impact.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi,

To upgrade from older version, upgrade path would be :

    11.0.x till RU5  --> 11.0.6 RU6 /RU6a --> 11.0.6 RU6 MP3.

Any other upgrade path is not recommended nor supported by Symantec.

    Hello,

When Following the Steps above provided by Chetan, you can simply install SEPM version 11.0.6300 on the newer server and follow the Disaster Recovery steps and you may not require to follow any upgrade procedure for SEPM. once doen, simple migrate all the clients to the Latest version through auto-upgrade feature.

However, to answer your question, if you are installing SEPM which is older version to 11.0.6005 (RU6a), then you may require 2 upgrades.

You can Download the Latest version from https://fileconnect.symantec.com

    Please check the steps below:

    1) From Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 (older version to 11.0.6005)   to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6005 (RU6a)

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH131653

    2) From Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6005 (RU6a) to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3)

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH155655

Reason to have the Latest version:---> check the Release Notes below:

Release notes for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.x and Symantec Network Access Control 11.0.x

Are you talking about a SEPM migration, a Windows OS migration, or moving the SEPM from one server to another? Each of these possibilities will have vastly different answers.

Mithun, if you follow disaster recovery processes, the recommended procedure is to install the same version of the SEPM with which the database backup was taken, then migrate up if needed. This is due to database schema changes.
