HOW DO I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY GUP IS UPDATED OR NOT ?
We are having 1500 GUPs in our organization we have made the GUP on Windows 2k3 SP2 with 1 GB RAM Desktops.
My query is
HOW DO I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY GUP IS UPDATED OR NOT ?
As far my Symantec knowledge there are two parts in updates for a GUP.
1. GUP PC's Client stores it's own updates in
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ VirusDefs folder.
2. For other PC's GUP stores the pattern file in
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\Shared Updates
I want to have the solution for Point no 2 mentioned above.

Hi
Gup is also a client right
so you check the same way you check for other clients.
Is your question to know if the latest defs is in the path..
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\Shared Updates
so that to know its really doing its job?
Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : )

You can check it also if your gup is up to date by checking in the SEPM from where the GUP is grouped
:-)
@Peterpan
Till now i am checking the GUP status from SEPM console whether it's own client has updated or not.
I found the below
1. GUP's are updated & other clients are not updated.
2. GUP's are outdated & other Clients are Updated
For temporary solution i had reconfigured Clients to Bypass GUP after 5 Hrs.

Hi Ramji,
I think you might need to recheck the liveupdate policy because you are saying the GUP's are out of date where as the clients are updated hence can you check the liveupdate policy. & also if possible discribe how the policy is assigned?
@kavin
I had checked the policy that I had created. it is correct.
Kindly find the description.
1. Logined with admin ID
2. Clicked Clients
3. Clicked the group in which i want to make GUP
4. Selected Policy Tab
5. Removed the inheritance
6. Clicked Liveupdate policy & opened as Non-shared.
7. Clicked Server Setting
8. Check marked Use default Management Server
9. Check marked Use the GUP
10 Opened GUP
11 Entered the IP address of the PC which i want to Make.
12 .Clicked OK
Note :- I had used the PC of the group where i want to create a GUP.

1. GUP's are updated & other clients are not updated---- Gup not sending defs to clients?
2. GUP's are outdated & other Clients are Updated-- Now gups dont have defs? then how come others got the update ? bypassed gup? case 1 is not true??
may be you are facing this in different groups and different gups in those groups, if so , you may try troubleshooting with gup doc..

You are right !!! We can
You are right !!!
We can check & troubleshoot GUP which are having the issue, however there must be some seperate log to monitor.
How much manual intervention is required for this to do.
1500 Groups across organization is it possible to verify daily or weekly.

Hi, can I set schedule
Hi, can I set schedule wherein the GUP will get update from SEPM...let's say this GUP will get update at 4:00 AM? Base on my observation the GUP client update kicks in when there is client requesting update from GUP. Also, the SharedUpdate content started to populate when there is client requesting for update. Can we set schedule to both of this? Thanks!
Priority Explained
Clients Gets updates this way
Priority 1 - GUP (If Configured)
Priority 2 - Manager
Priority 3 - Live Update (If Configured)
@Jerry
GUP's cannot be scheduled as you had described above.
I had filled an enhancement form for this.
This feature is available in trend micro.
