  • 1.  How do I configure a Managed Delivery policy to deploy do a non-domain joined Mac?

    Posted Aug 15, 2014 05:44 PM

We're introducing some BYOD options at our company and I am working a plan for deploying software to Macintosh machines that are not part of the domain. I have successfully installed the Altiris Agent on a MacBook Air, applied policies to it, and have verified Altiris Agent functionality. However, I am having difficulty installing software via Managed Delivery Policies. Namely, I'm not sure how to specify a local account in the Run tab of the Advanced Options page in the SWD policy (below).

The listed acount, admin_user is an administartor on the Mac and was the same account that I used when I pushed the Altiris Agent to the machine via the console. When I attempt to push software using this configuration, it fails to install. If you have succesfully configured SWD Policies to deploy to non-domian joined Macs, I'd appreciate any assitance that you can provide. Thanks!

    Hi,

Please try to use Symantec Management Agent Credentials option.

    Regards,

    Hi,

As Dmitrii pointed you should use SMA credential option.

If you are trying to install software using managed delivery policy/quick delivery task that comes in mac specific format(dmf/pkg)  - you should use SMA credential option (other options are not supported).

More information can be found in 7.5 release notes/known issues section:

    Andrei,

In order for this to work, do I need to configure a local account for the SMA credential? Our machines will likely not be domain members, so the SMA credential will not be present.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mike,

No, after agent is installed, it starts to work in root/admin environment of the lcoal system. When you select use SMA creds option means that job will be launched by agent without any impersonation to other users(so job will run as-if it was launched by a local administrator)

    Thanks,
