System: EV Version 8 SP1 - File System Archiving

Problem Description:

I have condensed about 220Gb of data down to 20Gb using the replace with shortcut feature.

I would now like to shrink that disk (its virtual) down from 250Gb to 50Gb.

The plan was to create a new VDisk, copy the files and bin the old disk.

I tried copying the files to a new disk, but when being written to the second disk the files were retrieved and written down as the original size. (220GB will not fit into 50GB!!)

So my question is... How can I copy a file that has been replaced by a shortcut from 1 disk to another but NOT have EV retrieve the original.

Thanks.

Simon.

Best option in my opnion is

Best option in my opnion is to use Fsautility with the -m switch - this will move the placeholders to the new location.

Could of things though.

1. You need to add the volume, create the archive points at the destination location before the move.
2. You need to move the data at a folder level. ie. you can't do the whole volume - needs to be one level down.

Have a look at the Utilities.pdf in the Documentation folder on the EV server - it will give you the details and full syntax needed to do the move.
