You can specify a Destination Download Location using the Advanced button of a Software Resource in a Managed Software Delivery Policy now.

Since you ask, I'm assuming you don't know about the terms given above, so just in case you can get a head start by clicking Manage | Software, and then once there, right-click on Deliverable Software, select Import Software, and sort of follow the steps/tabs here.  You don't "have" to use the Software Library if you don't want to, but you'll have to change the drop list if not.  That's an entirely new ball game.

And there are tons of good articles / resources for making software resources/policies, etc.

Hi, I have created a few software packages / policies but just thought it may be a different way to produce the Drivers package. Anyway - I have done what you suggested. I have a lenovo folder that contains drivers for all our models. I import this folder into deliverable software. Under package location I specify the unc source - it will not be on the NS but on another server  \\source\lenovo - All seems good. when I go to a package server and udate the config i see it listed under packages. When I check the properties of it to see download history I see the source location has 2 entries listed. The first one is the http source - this is pointing to the NS server. The 2nd source is the correct UNC one. It seems to be trying to download from the http invalid source. How would I remove this.

    Thanks

    Joe.

edit: ok - maybe a bit hasty - I now see that its downloading - I assume the http is just a virtual directory pointing to the correct UNC. I've kicked it off - will see how it goes. When changes are made to the source location do you know what the frequency the site servers update ?

Package refresh defaults to 10 minutes, but this only happens when there's a code base change on the server.  Soooo, the question is multifacited.  If you change the source files, without modifying the package, then the package doesn't "know" about the changes until the daily runs and does a check on all packages. However, if you go directly to the package and click "update distribution points" this creates a new code-base immediately and the package servers should be updated in short order.

Patience is still required - just not as much as for clients.

I've learned the hard way that patience is required :-)

It all makes sense now. seems to be all in place and ticking over - thank you for your help Thomas.

just one more thing. Back to the original screenshot - is there any way to create an icon like that, for this package. It would make updating the dist points better when all drivers could be done at the same time. (If that makes sense)

If not, then I can at least continue as is.

    Thanks

    Joe.

    Maaayyybeeee...

The icon is there because of where the package resides in the console.  I am guessing you could port another package over there but not sure if that's what you really want or not.  It's just decorative.  The DS team put their packages there for ease of management, but they're also in the other location under Manage All Resources.

You MIGHT be able to export the package, then re-import it to that folder, and it MIGHT move in the console.  Honestly, I've never tried that.

You CAN put a link to packages there, as I have done below by right-clicking the Drivers folder, choosing New | Item Link, selecting Resources, and then finding this under Resources\Default\packages.

    Best I can do.
