  • 1.  How do I reinstall SEPM 12.1.4 after full SQL DB loss!?

    Posted Feb 20, 2014 04:21 PM

I have SEPM running on a Windows 2012 Server and that is fine.  The database was on a seperate 2008 SQL server, and has been completely lost, not coming back.  I have a new SQL 2012 server ready to use.  I have my "Server Private Key Backup" and everything is fine on the server running SEPM.  Again SQL is all gone, no backups.

What's the best method to get SEPM back up and running?  I want all my current clients to re-connect automatically, I want to avoid any client fixes or re-installs.  Thanks!

Take note on steps near the bottom of the page

If you do not have a database backup to restore:

You can perform a disaster recovery without a database backup, but the following points apply in this case:

    • All policies must be re-created, or imported from other backups i.e. exported policy files.
    • Clients will be able to communicate with the SEPM but will re-appear in the console only after their next check-in.
    • Clients will reappear in the default group as they check in, unless you enable automatic creation of client groups on the re-installed SEPM by editing "scm.agent.groupcreation=true" to the conf.properties file. This file is located <drive>Program files or(x86)/Symantec/Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager/tomcat/etc.
    • If you originally had multiple SEPM domains beyond the default domain, you must re-create them using domain IDs from Backup.txt.

"I have my "Server Private Key Backup" and everything is fine on the server running SEPM"

So you have a SEPM which is up and running?

From your existing SEPM do a full data backup. you can use this to restore when needed.

No, what I was trying to get across is that my SEPM server is ok, but the SQL database it connected to is gone.  No damage was done to the server running SEPM binaries.

    Got it :)

We wont be able to do much without SEM5.db, how many clients do you have in your network?

If you have less number of clients, you can run a complete fresh install of SEPM

then use the communication deployment wizard to bring back your clients to this new SEPM as per this document
