  • 1.  How do I remove the bootload password entry for an external encrypted drive?

    Posted Feb 24, 2012 03:41 PM

I whole-disk encrypted an external drive attached via eSATA.  Now, when I boot my computer, I'm presented with the bootload request for password.  I didn't (at least intentionally) encrypt my boot disk, just the external drive, and do not want PGP access to be open whenever the computer is in use.  How can I fix this?

My setup is: HP Elitebook 8640, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1, PGP Enterprise Whole Disk Edition, version 10.2 MP1

    http://www.sysint.no/Download/tabid/162/language/nb-NO/Default.aspx
平台: dos、cmd、Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows PE.

    http://www.sysint.no/nedlasting/mbrfix.htm

       MbrFix /drive <num> driveinfo
       MbrFix /drive <num> listpartitions
W2K/XP/2003 or Vista
       MbrFix /drive <num> writestate <state>    写入到位置于 byte 0x1b2 在MBR中
       MbrFix /drive <num> readdrive <startsector> <sectorcount> <file>
       MbrFix /drive <num> /partition <part> fixbootsector <os>
从 boot sector 更新 Boot code
       MbrFix /drive <num> /partition <part> getpartitiontype
       MbrFix /drive <num> /partition <part> setpartitiontype <typenum>
       MbrFix /drive <num> /partition <part> setactivepartition
       MbrFix /drive <num> getactivepartition
       MbrFix volumeinformation driveletter
       MbrFix flush {driveletter(s)}
       MbrFix listpartitiontypes

    MBRFix /drive 0 fixmbr /yes

    vista mbr修复 MBRFix /drive 0 fixmbr /vista。

If you still hav access to Windows, you should open pgp desktop and decrypt the drive.

You should try using same password as external drive or windows passphrase to authenticate in bootguard,

Thanks for your reply, Julian!  Would decrypting the drive eliminate the bootguard password entry?  That's what I'm really trying to do.  My other external drives ask for a password when I turn them on or connect them, and that is what I would like to have happen with the new drive.  I would also like to be able to boot up without entering my PGP password.

Thanks for your help - MiddBill

Correct.Decrypting the drive eliminate the bootguard password entry. If we are talking about the boot drive.

The drive I encrypted is external, attached by eSATA, but if there's a chance it will get rid of bootguard, I'll happily decrypt it over the weekend (it's a 2TB drive, and took days to encrypt).  Could the eSATA connection be causing the problem? The drive also supports USB, so should I try that?

    Thanks again, - MiddBill

i think eSATA is faster than USB

Its common that encription takes over 6 hs at least, speaking about 250GB drives, so imagine for 5TB drive..

Everything is fine, Please Decrypt the drive and be patient.
