There is one simple way which can follow to update the defintion in sepm as well as clients

You can update the jdb file in symantec server it can update the both

Path for update the .jdb

SEP 11.x:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\inbox

SEP 12.1.x:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\inbox

Source to download the defintion

Please check the below article.

To run LiveUpdate:

  1. Start Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. If prompted by a user access control window, click the Yes button.
  3. In the left column, click the LiveUpdate... link.
  4. LiveUpdate will automatically download and install any updates. When it is complete, you may close all windows.

Your requirement complete or do you need any more help?

I have an additional question here: can I put .jdb file(s) somewhere on a internal network (internal FTP) and then set up this location as default for an unmanaged SEP client? This purpose is to make a semiautomatic update for SEP umnanaged clients.

Shoud I put this as separate discussion?

No, it wount work that way. You need to use Luadmin. There is a third party content update option available you may check that.

Rafeeq, thank you. I see that Live Update is the only option.
