  • 1.  how do I use my customized setup.exe files to bulk upgrade clients and servers

    Posted May 31, 2013 02:30 PM

We have customized the Client Install Packages (right click either the 32 or 64 bit package and export, customizing from there and creating a setup.exe file) to have:

    Windows 7 64 bit

    Windows XP 32 bit

    Server 2003 32 bit

    Server 2003 64 bit

    Server 2008 64 bit

    Server 2008 DC's

    SQL 2008

    SQL 2003

    Exchange 2007

    etc, etc

I have a bunch of servers with 12.1 RTM.  I upgraded SEPM to 12.1 RU2 and now want to push these new install packages to the group.  Auto Update seems to just want to use the default Package created during the upgrade, but I want to bulk update say, all Server 2008's using my customized setup.exe and point it to the server 2008 group I created.  Then I want to use my SQL setup.exe and point it to my SQL group of servers

    Can this be done?

    Thanks!

Export all the client machines name. put in a txt file .one IP per line

then use the migration and deployment wizard. Do it stage by stage one group at a time.

Migration and deployment is explained  here

if I use the first suggestion, it wants to add machines one by one.  By combining the second suggestion with the txt file, it let me import everything I wanted.  I am upgrading the servers from RTM to RU2 now, then will make sure they took correctly.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Since you are using SEP SBE 12.1, the auto-upgrade uses the default packages to upgrade. You can disable this feature in case you want to -

In your case, You can create a custom package and then you use any of the deployment methods.

    Hi,

I think you are using Enterprise Edition? Could you please confirm the edition details.

Because in Enterprise Edition you can add the customized package to auto upgrade process.

Mithun - thanks for the links - going through them now.

Chetan - yes, I am using Enterprise - I would love to use the auto upgrade process if I could

    Thanks!

    Hello,

First you can upgrade your Server one by one from Current Version to RU2 using client deployment wizard

After completion this task then Add the Auto upgrade feature on the Client System at the Client Groups one by one which are available on your base location.

Then use the Remote Client Deployment wizard if any remote site avaialble.

After complete every portion then check the umanage client and deploy the package here.

It can easily run the task without issue
