    What distribution are you refereing to? Patch Management Solution 7.x has native support for Red Hat and Suse as seen here https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=51639&p=1

    If its for other distros, you may need to go the route of writing your own scripts and deploying them as script tasks.

    Just some thoughts.
