How do you put restrictions for pcAnywhere?

Created: 04 Mar 2011 • Updated: 04 Mar 2011 | 3 comments

We need to allow certain user groups in AD to use pcAnywhere to view systems. They are not allowed to transfer files or restart systems. Is there a way to restrict a user group in AD to only allow them to view systems?

Thanks.

Are you using pcanywhere solution or pcanywhere full/box?  In box/full product when you create your caller files you can choose what rights they have for pcAnywhere.

If you are in pcAnywhere solution you can use super user or standard user when you identify your callers in the authentication.

With pcanywhere solution there aren't as many options for controlling settings like file transfer and such.

Cheers.

We are using the pcAnywhere solution that came with Altiris.

We do have set the Standard and Super user, but the only difference is that the ability for the user to reject the connection and small minor things as indiscated in your link.

So I guess the answer is that it can not be done with the product that we are using.

In the roles though you do have certain option that indicate that this can be done. So I am wondering if you use the connection via the Webcosole if the rules for that role apply?

At this time there isn't a way to do so.   The Altiris pcAnywhere solution has centeral managment but not granular configuration.    I would suggest you go to the Ideas section and enter or vote for this upgraded option if it isn't already listed.

cheers.
