How do you uninstall SAV9 without restarting?

Bishop21's picture

I have spent the whole day trying to figure this out....

I can not uninstall SAV9 without a reboot via command line.

I have tried a little bit of everything and need some help:

Things I have tried:
MsiExec.exe /x{848AC794-8B81-440A-81AE-6474337DB527} /passive REBOOT=REALLYSUPRESS
MsiExec.exe  /norestart /passive /x{848AC794-8B81-440A-81AE-6474337DB527}
MsiExec.exe  /norestart /quiet /x{848AC794-8B81-440A-81AE-6474337DB527}

and may other variations...The problem is that SAV9 prompts to restart and in passive and quiet mode it forces the restart...I am putting this command line in WSE to uninstall SAV9 before installing SEP11 and I just can not get around this...HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Never tried this. U should

Never tried this.
U should restart the machine because sometimes registry exists and it will make the re-installation Rollout.

SAV 9 will Migrate to SEP

Hi Bishop,

Starting any software installation from a clean slate is a good idea in general, but may not be necessary in this SAV 9 case.  You may want to check out the following article: Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 Frequently Asked Questions

There's an assurance there:

"You can migrate Symantec AntiVirus 9.x and Symantec Client Security 2.x or newer versions to Symantec Endpoint Protection. You can also migrate from Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 for Windows Vista."

The migration should occur without any trouble - no need to uninstall SAV 9 first.

Many other good migration documents are available from this link, in case you have not already seen them: Endpoint Security Migration & Installation

Thanks and best regards,

Mick
