  • 1.  How does client license works

Hi everyone, I just need a clarification on how client licensing works in SEP 12. When I install a client on a Windows pc for user X, it adds a license that I can view in my console as user X. When another user login on the same pc, I see on the console that SEP automatically adds a new license for user Y. This is normal? Thus one license for every user on every pc? But if I remotely login as administrator on a pc for administrative tasks, how can I avoid to use a license that then I'll remove on my SEP console?

    Thanks!

SEP will use 1 license per machine. Unless it's a virtual platform then it will consume multiple licenses so for eample if you have 10 people that log onto a virtual machine SEP will allocate 11 licenses (1 for the physical machine and 1 for each of the virtual environments that have been logged onto).

If you have your SEPM to delete offline machines after 30 days if nobody has logged on that machine or virtual environment for 30 days then the SEPM will release that license back to your pool of licenses.

Hi GeoGeo and thanks for replying. How can I set my SEPM to delete offline machines after 30 days?

Admin page >> Domains tab >> Edit Domain Properties. You set this on the General tab "Delete clients that have not connect for a specified time"

As per Brians reply above. You can also set a seperate offline time for VDI's there too.

    Thanks Brian!

@GeoGeo: what exactly is a VDI?

VDI (Virtual desktop infrastructure) is the practice of hosting a desktop operating system within a virtual machine (VM) running on a centralized server.

Below are the Best Practices when installing SEP in a VDI environment -
