How does duplication work - explaination of process

Created: 22 Apr 2008 • Updated: 22 May 2010 | 1 comment

Hi,

Could anybody tell how the duplication process works? What actually happens when images are read and written to tapes. Does the images on the duplicated tape get read into memory and then written to the other tape?

The reason I am asking is that I am duplication LT02 tapes between Fibre attached drives and it's taking over > 20hrs to do around 30-40 images of 90. I am trying to determine what is the bottle next within this process?

I am trying troubleshoot this and seeing if my Media server is a bottle next during deplication?

Is there any document explaining the duplication process and what actually happens?

Thanks

Christian

The speed of the duplication process depends on many things, are you multistreaming, are you copying select images per media, how many read write drives are you using, how much data are you trying to duplicate, are you using vault to copy the images on a tape?
