How to easily change only idle time within PDA

We bought within the last week the "Mobile Security Suite" from Symantec for using our PDAs with a virusscan solution. I already installed it like usually and saw that the programm packet blocks to change the idle time. It's 5 Minutes. I read within the documentation that this is the standard setting also wiping after 10 wrong PINs.

The documentation also says that it's possible to change or create new policies with different settings. Our situation is these PDAs won't have access to our local network only a direct connection to the internet. The security manager needs to have a SQL server installed. That sounds a bit too big for us since we think that from 250 colleagues around 10-15 will get this antivirus solution.

We only want a possibilty to manually change this setting if needed. The controll of this antivirus software should be as small as possible. Can you tell me how easily we can change or manage these policies without a direct connection to the SQL server? Maybe create the policy and use activesync for transfering the policy files on these pdas?

The solution should be very simple for us.

If the question appears: We use Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

Best regards Daniel

Idle Timeout can Be Changed, But Needs the SMSM Console

Hi Daniel

Have you seen this article yet: How to Change the Idle Timeout on Symantec Mobile Security for Windows Mobile.  In brief, the Idle Timeout can be changed, but that Symantec Mobile Security Manager Console is necessary to create the custom package.

Though it may seem daunting to install MS SQL and the Symantec Mobile Security Manager Console, I generally recommend it all the same.  The console give the ability to create custom packages and interact in a more powerful way with the mobile devices.

We're always looking for new news to improve the product.  As the Ideas section of Connect is now open, I encourage you to submit a suggestion for enhanced ways to change idle timeout without using the SMSM Console.

Thanks and best regards,

Mick

Hi Mick. Yes you are right

Hi Mick.

Yes you are right between the time a symantec person has reached me and said the same to me. I installed the Manager Console on a MS SQL server. The installation didn't make any problems but I still get the PDA not displayed within the console although the device is via USB connect to the host computer connected and has access to the internet. But I got a timed out if I try to ping the server within the network. I use the windows mobile center from Vista.

Any ideas?

Best regards Daniel
