  • 1.  How to export whole SBG rules to another SBG appliance

    Posted Jan 05, 2011 10:32 PM

    Hi All,

Is there any way to export the whole SBG rules (Policy, Custom Dictionaries etc..) to another SBG appliance?

These two SBG will use different Hostname/IP.

    Regards

There is an enhancement in the upcoming 9.5 release which will simplify this process (taking a backup and restoring to an appliance with a different network configuration).

Today, the two best options are either to recreate the rules in the new deployment or to take a back-up, restore to an appliance with the same network configuration, then go through the process for changing the network configuration on that appliance.  If you go down the second route, be sure to look up the Knowledge Base articles on best practices for making this transition.

    Hi Akottas,

If you don't mind can you post the related KB links?

We might opt for the second option but at the same time we're waiting for Symantec Backline to provide an official answer.

    regards

Generally the Product Manager (Angelos) is more authoritative than our Backline support.

Are you wanting a KB on how to restore a backup? Here is a good one:

I'm not sure if there are others, but here is the base KB for changing IP address on Symantec Brightmail Gateway:

If your running the VMWare version of the product, take a Snapshot of your current SBG and then boot that one.  From the VMWare console, run I believe setconfig and it should prompt for new name and IP address.

This is how we built our backup/test machine.
