Created: 16 Sep 2013 • Updated: 18 Sep 2013 | 4 comments

Hi,

Iam not able to find the group location detail in sylink.xml  for SEP 12.1

In which log can we find the group detail of a client rather than the SEP GUI.

Well you can check the registry

HKLM\Software\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC\Sylink\Sylink

Check the "PreferredGroup" key, this shows the group the client is in.

Or just run the Computer Status report in the SEPM. This will show which group the client is in

You can enable sylink logging on the client and search for the following line to get the group:

<GeneratePreferredGroupAndModeInRegistration:>Loading current group:My Company\Test <--- group name

The client jumps from  "Current Group" to " Preferred Group" automatically.

How to stop that client jumping back to preferred group

Example

I have 2 group

Group 1 and Group 2

I created a package with group 1 and after install I move the client to group 2.  Now the preferred group will be Group 1 and current group will be Group 2.

The client jumps back to group 1 and how to stop it and in which settings file can be find this and change it.

How to fix the client jumping problem
