This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi All,

Could you please let me know that how can I find number of used medias in a SQL agent based restore.

I was restoring the database and selected full + differential backup to restore. After restore start it gave 1 media id and I requested for that media.

After restore completion another stream for restore started(Most probably for differential) and was using another media which was not in the library.

It took double time to restore the data.

Please let me know the procedure to find out the media ids. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Abhinav

best method to get the tape info in agent based restore is..

get the dates, from which user is looking for restore, start and end dates.

sort out all the images between those dates , media IDs related to those images.

bpimmedia -client <clientname>  -U - d mm/dd/yyyy HH:MM:SS -e mm/dd/yyyy HH:MM:SS] -U | grep -i "MediaID"

would help to get this info.

and make then all avaliable before the restore..this is the best method i always use...

Although you cannot do a restore from the Master Server you can view and select all of the backups you want to restore from there in the BAR GUI

Then select Actions - Preview Media

This should list all tapes used for the backups you have selected

Nice easy way

Hope this helps

Try this command:

bpimagelist -media -client <client-name> -d mm/dd/yyyy  -e mm/dd/yyyy -pt MS-SQL-Server -U
