How to get Optiplex 755 to use PXE without making NIC 1st boot device
Hello,
I have new Dell Optiplex 755 workstations which I can't seem to get to use PXE without making the onboard network device the 1st boot option. Has anybody else come across this? I recently was using Optiplex 745 and not only didn't I have to make the onboard NOC the 1st device, I didn't even have to change the device settings from Nic ON, to ON w/ PXE. It wasn't even necessary on the 745's and I could deploy with PXE no problem. So why the issues with the 755? Has anybody else come across this? Thanks!

I run the 755s here with no problems. All we have to do is hit F12 at the bios screen and select boot from NIC. One thing to look out for on the 755s vs the 745s is the hard drive mode. Unless you have altered your preboot enviroments to support the AHCI you will need to go into the bios and set the hard drive mode to I believe compability mode.

Change BIos Settings..
By Default the 755
Onboard Devices
Integrade NIC is "Turned Off"
Drives
1. Sata Operation set to "AHCI"
First thing you have to do when you start up is hit "F2" enter setup mode..
if you click on boot sequence..you will see 2 things..
Onboard Network Controller (not present)
Onboard Sata Hard Drive (not present)
first you have to turn on the PXE boot..
Second under the Drives.. switcht he Sata Operation to "ATA" this will enable the Onboard Sata Hard Drive.. that will allow you push the image to the computer..
save the changes and exit and reboot.. hit F12 and pick the Network Card and you are good to go..
