  • 1.  How to Ghost machines with only WiFi?

We've just got a bunch of new netbooks that unfortunately don't have wired Ethernet ports.  I'm stumped as to how I'm going to Ghost these.

In the olden-days I had a parallel-port-to-Ethernet adapter that I could use on machines that had no wired Ethernet, but the netbooks don't have a parallel port either.

At the moment I’m using the DOS boot method for Ghost. Will the WinPE method offer me the ability to Ghost over WiFi? How would I go about configuring it with the SSID and encryption key?

    Looking for any useful advice.

    Many thanks.

You cannot use WiFi under WinPE as the cut down operating system does not support the additional networking elements required by WiFi drivers.

Since WinPE supports USB ports, the most effective solution is to boot WinPE from a USB hard disk and then install the image from there.  Or you could use a USB flash memory - either reformat it as NTFS if you have a large image (> 2GB) or ensure that your Ghost images are stored as 2Gb files.
