We are thinking of upgrading to RU6 MP1, would like to know about the Pros and Cons

Also, wondering about the naming convention RU6a and RU6 MP1 and what is the latest version called RU6 MP1 or RU6a MP1 :)

Latest version is Release Update 6 Maintenance Patch 1 (RU6 MP1)--11.0.6100

Symantec Endpoint Protection RU6 MP1 (11.0.6100) provides fixes since the release of RU6 and RU6a. This maintenance patch cannot be installed over any versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection or Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager prior to RU6. It must be installed over RU6 or RU6a.

RU6MP1 is a maintenance patch and not a maintenance release, A MP can only be installed on the main build. You can install RU6 over RTM or MR3 or MR4MP2 but not RU6MP1. For that you need to have RU6

It is not recommend to upgrade directly from RU5 or MR4  to RU6MP1

Possible effects after a direct upgrade to RU6MP1  from a lower version [except RU6]:
Schema Corruption.
Possible dll corruption.
Policies Corruption.
Network breakdown.
Challenges with uninstalling SEP.

I have not run into any issues since the upgrade.

The one thing it does fix is the broken client search in ru6/6a

the A in ru6a stands for Alpha.

I upgraded from 11.05 straight to ru6a, and then to ru6 MP1.

No issues at all as long as your RTFM.

I would say that if you are not experiencing issues with RU5 then hold off on the upgrade until a new version comes out. MP1 is only a patch.

On the other hand, all software releases from Symantec need patches... I'd say go with MP1. If worried, wait another week and keep an eye on this forum.

After checking the fix list in the release notes I found at least 7-8 issues we have in our environment. If these issues actually are fixed now, and hopefully for good, this release might be the first good one in the 11.0 series.

We'll start planning a 10k deployment now and run a pilot to see if all goes well...

RU6 adds Mac support. Not sure if your enviroment has Macintosh clients, but if it does upgrading to RU6 MP1 would be the way to go. Support for Mac is limited to the antivirus component as of now. So, you'll need to upgrade to RU6->RU6 MP1.

We have upgraded to MP1 and the upgrade went smooth. The DoS bug appears to be fixed and the client upgrade went down without a hitch.
