  • 1.  How to identifiy PXE boot clients

If I PXE boot several machines at once that require different images, from the console all I can see is their mac address. Is there anyway to give them a friendly host name of some sort? It be nice if it would be possible to add a step to the PXE booting process that asked for a unique identification name.

     Hi Cory,

PreOS client works slightly different to the Windows client, and it does not use the computer name.

But what you can do is to run start ngctw32 with a folder name. In this case, if the machine is not already in Console, it will put in to the folder instead of default. If the folder does not exist in Console machine group, it will be created. In WinPE, ngctw32 already run with a parameter -console to display the output. If you run it with

    ngctw32.exe -console "Test1"

Machine will be added to the Test1 folder instead of default.

    Hope this helps.
