I dun know is it possible.

I have create a SNMP MIB file and now I need to import the MIB file. How do I import the MIB file and create a rules to monitor the status only. e.g. Active or Inactive.

I have attach the MIB and some screenshot of what I want to archive. The screen shot is simulate that I am the SNMP client just generating Active and Inactive trap. My question is how do I create a rule to do the same actual scenario?

    Thanks

    Hi Desmond,

I would be more than happy to assist you with this.  Are you planning on just SNMP Traps or do you plan to actually poll the device periodicallly.  SNMP Traps are the easiest to configure and setup.

    1.  You will need to import the MIB's first.  The following is a link to a MIB Import Utility that allows you to import a batch of MIB's.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC1830&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1286974545496

    2.  After you have imported the MIB's, Configure the SNMP enabled device to send its SNMP Traps to the Altiris Server.  A link below on how to configure and enable SNMP on the device.

    3.  Once you have a sample of the SNMP Traps coming into the Event Console you can then setup a Task to send an email or automated notififcation.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO15635&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1286974445371

I will add a demo video onto the Monitor Community on how to do the above.

If you plan on polling the Device then you will need to configure the Protocol Management and then create an Agentless SNMP Metric using the OID of the MIB you want to collect following the other steps above.

Please let me know if this helps?

Check with you. I tried to follow the guide you send to me. When he say go to

    1.  In the Control Center, click Administration > Settings > SNMP

    [Desmond] Where is this?

    Thanks

    Hi Desmond,

Sorry the link refering to the SNMP was just a sample on how to configure SNMP.  On Windows to enable SNMP you need to Add SNMP Service Features using Server Manager and once enabled you can then configure the SNMP Service by right clicking on the SNMP Service properties and adding the SNMP manager info which is the details on the Altiris Server.

    Joseph,

I need be able to report on the SNMP events as well as be notified when they occur. The reports need to be daily as well as over time for historical purposes.

Can you configure a monitor policy based on the SNMP trap events? Can you create a report based on that policy or the SNMP events?

    Thank you,

    Logan

    Hi Logan,

Event Console can receive SNMP Traps and you can creates reports based on the SNMP Traps received.  Actually if you are using ITA you can easily use it to create the reports otherwise you would need to write a SQL query against the Event Console Table.  ITA report will be within 24 hours of data otherwise using it against the event console table will be latest.

If you plan on using monitor the SNMP Metric type can be used to poll SNMP data from a resource and evaluate the values returned and the same can be used to create reports.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Joseph,

Thank you for the response. We plan on having ITA setup shortly. Can you provide an example of a SQL query to report on Backup Exec SNMP traps or the table name to look at?

    Thank you,

    Logan
