Could you use evt_aex_client_config_request (errr the 7.x equivalent, haven't looked at that quite yet)? Not sure if it's "real time"enough for you...

you can use the task console web part that allows you to filter between All/Active/InActive.

looks like the DS console where inactive clients are grey and active clients are blue.

From The Console; Goto Action =>  Remote Management =>Real-Time Management

Type the Client you would like to check

    Once the RTL connected

    Go to

Real-Time System Manager => Software => Symantec Management Agent => Settings

And you will find if the NS connected or not

"Connected to the NS" is kind of tricky, because the agent is not connected to the NS constantly, but polling for it's policies (default: once per hour).

In other words: 99% of the time the agent is _not_ connected to the NS.

I used many tricks to get an accurate information on this. I make reports based on the 'client date' under inventory -\Data Classes\Inventory\Basic Inventory.  If you want to look up an individual resource, open resource manager->summaries-> processing summary and look at the Event History and Client Config events.

    Good answers so far.

What are you trying to do, licht?  I believe Mistral is "most correct" by pointing out that clients are not connected to the NS unless they are updating policies, reporting inventory or event data, etc.  Most of the day they are not connected.
