How to limit only certain package(s) is transfer to Package Server

seamaster's picture

Microsoft patches total staging space is around 5 GB.

When a package server is 'enabled', it will transfer the whole 5 GB from Altiris server to Package server thru network. This can cause heavy load in the network if there are 10 or more package servers.

The question is: Is there a way to limit or control packages from transfering into package server? Maybe select only new patches (packages) to be transferred?

Thank you in advance.

Assigning packages to sites or servers

In each NS package you click on Advanced and designate which servers or sites you want your package to go to. This option is available for all packages on the NS except ones that do not contain source files like command lines.

I can't find the Advanced button to assign where the package should go to.
Clicking on MS patch that are staged in NS does not give the option to do so...

Patch issues

If you do pmimport on a regular basis, normally only new patches should be downloaded and synched out to package servers. There is a known issue that causes all patches to download and distribute to all package servers if your NS uses a proxy.

replicating patches to specific servers

sorry I didn't know you meant patches. When you stage your patches and then you open them in the task wizard, click on the 'Package' link, you will see 4 tabs, click Advanced, and choose what package servers you want them to go to.

Also if you have your pmimport only to download changes and not full import it will only replicate changed patches not all of them every time.
