  • 1.  How to locate IMEI number from a laptop

    Posted Jul 25, 2012 12:04 PM

We have a number of Lenovo X series laptops that are equipped with WWAN cards.  These cards all have their own IMEI so that a 4G data card can be installed.

Is there anyway to pull up the IMEI number from the hardware inventory ?  I dug around in all the field that made sense but can't see anything.

    Thanks

Mobile Management gathers this by default for mobile devices like iOS, Android, and Blackberry, plus others through EAS.  But for laptops, this is not gathered by default.  You would need to use a custom inventory that uses wmi or checks registry.  Does Lenovo store it in the registry?

No...it doesn't.  I've been looking around the web to see if there was any other place to pull from and there doesn't appear to be any.

    Thanks anyway.

Download Scriptomatic http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12028 or similar. This will enable you to search WMI and look for your IMEI.

If it's not queryable in WMI and not in the registry (remember to run a search) consider looking at another application that lists the IMEI number like a dialler or card software and look for it in it's registry location or ini files etc.

If you still can't find it, but the IMEI can be displayed on screen, you could check to see if Autoit can capture the IMEI from a label or edit box on a Windows 32bit form. You could launch the app hidden and capture the detail in the background.

It will be there somewhere if software has to use it, you just have to be determined.

I'm afraid I don't have the hardware to hand so can help no further.
