How long do categories take to show up?

I added a ne category i helpdesk about 5 hours ago and it does not show up in helpdesk. I created the category under overhead/administration and I made sure it was active. When I create or modify an incident, I can select overhead and select administration but, I don't get the field showing the new category. Is there a service that would need to be restarted in order to have this new category appear?

Try restarting IIS
Many of the modifications for helpdesk require a restart of the webservices.

The category should show up
The category should show up right away. Make sure you are clicking on the "Save" button after you create your category.

For some reason I'm recalling that adding categories just requires you to close your broswer and re-open to see them. Maybe a restart of IIS is not needed since it's not a real modification?

We had this problem and found something else fixed it!
After we recently made a ton of customizations and changes to our system to be ITIL compliant, we found our category changes had a delay in showing up. And on the day of production, we tried several of the steps above...but to no avail. Finally, I was looking around on the server files and found a file on our test server that contained the correct values and on our production server...it had the old values. We simply renamed the current file on our Prod server _old and copied the correct one over to our new server. Worked great!
*Note: It's wise to backup the files involved in case one of them gets accidentally overwritten
