How long should a catalog job take to run?

Created: 13 Jan 2005 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments

On Windows 2000 Server, BE 9 with an HP vs80 DLT drive, how long should it take to complete a catalog job?

I have one tape I'm trying to catalog that is used for incremental backups in append mode, so probably has about 30 backup sets on it. The catalog job has been running for 45 minutes and still shows 0 bytes cataloged.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Jason

Jason,

Check your alerts. See if BE is looking for a different tape.
Sometimes Backups span Data over two tapes. When you run the catalog the job is looking for the end of the backup, hence the other tape that was used.
Kinda like a spanned Zip file.

Good Luck.

I would like to copy the catalog created off site each night after the backup completes. Is there anyway to do this within Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows? If not, has anyone created a batch file to run at the end of the job? It doesn't appear easy to identify the file name in order to automate this process easily. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
