As far as I know there is no such a rule. But in my openion it is not better to more that 900-1000 clients in a group.Making more group based on dept wise ,floor wise etc will make the administration easier...

Aravind is right but its better to put users in grupos not to much...

it will be easy to manage...

when you have a lot of users in one group its difficult to manage i think....

A persion who advise me to put 50/group. As with that it is very many group :(
I think it should be devide by network segments to optimize for GUP.

it depends on your DB you selected; if you are using SQL then you can put 50k cleints, put in one group or in many groups does not matter.
it depends on how many clients you have in your network..
we have around 1000+ servers in one group without any issues.

If you are using RU 5 or above you can go for multiple GUP option. In this option if you create GUP,clients will take updates from the GUP which is present in the same subnet.

We have about 10,000 clients at about 250 locations.  About 180 of these locations have a single subnet.  The other 80 have multiple subnets.  We have one group for all the single subnet sites with about 5500 clients.  Then I have 80 other groups, one for each multiple subnet site so they can an assigned their own GUP.  The only issue I see with having 5500 workstations in one group is the group interface only shows 999 workstations.  If you sort the view by a parameter, it only sorts the machines in the current 999 view.  You will have to page across the 6 pages and hit sort on each page.  This a big hassle.  I have considered breaking this one group into 6 groups so that all the clients will fit in the view window.  But finally did not as I started using the search function to find machines.

However, it has taught me to use the search function really well.   I normally stay at the parent group and do a client search including sub-groups to find the clients I want.  Of couse, RU6a limits the search window to 1000 as well as displaying only 30 at a time so it is not ideal.

    Sincerely
    Bruce.
