How many patch reboots

Created: 25 Sep 2013 | 2 comments

I am run Patch Management 7 and would like to know if there is a way to find out how my times a system has been reboot after updates were installed.  I found a Restart Status report but that only list systems that have current reboots pending.

Hi rcostanzo,

Unfortunately Patch Management does not have such report by default.
BTW, may I ask how do you use such information?

In case if you need it for some kind of investigation on particular client I may advice to check SMA logs on affected machine or Windows System logs to find out when system was rebooted.

Hello rcostanzo,

This data is held in the database based on Events that have returned from the Client. It is not a 1 to 1 ratio, for it is based solely off of the Events as they are gathered by the Agent and processed by the SMP.

If the client has any problems sending an Event, or the SMP has any problems processing the Event, then this count could be inaccurate to what has actually been done on the client.

I agree with Roman as to why this data would be relevant but you may review these counts in the database by running the following SQL Script as authored for PM 7.1 SP2 MP1:

select c.Name as [Computer Name],

COUNT (_id) as [Reboot Counts]

from Evt_Reboot e

join vRM_Computer_Item c on c.Guid = e._ResourceGuid

group by c.Name

order by 2 desc
