Hello,

Since i had any problems with my D:\ installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection, i moved it to the C Drive.

Unfortunatly, there is any log files who takes more and more disk space everyday.

I'ld like to move or delete these files, but no way.. i tried any solution found on your support forum, but i don't find the symantec embedded database in services.msc

The version is 12.1.1000.157.RU1

Anyone for a solution ?

Best regards

Symantec is aware and is investigating this issue.

Alternately, the following manual process is recommended to be performed as needed:

1) Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Symantec Embedded Database services.
2) Rename or delete the current sem5.log
3) Click Start Run and type CMD then click OK
4) In the Command Prompt type:
    For 32-bit: CD C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32\
    For 64-bit: CD C:\Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32\
5) Press Enter. This will change directories to the folder containing dbsrv11.exe.
6) To force the recreation of sem5.log, type:
    For 32-bit: dbsrv11 -f "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db"
    For 64-bit: dbsrv11 -f "C:\Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db"
7) Press Enter
8) Click Start > Run and type services.msc then click OK
9) Start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Symantec Embedded Database services

Hi Geezer, in older version of SEPM the embedded DB may of had the service name "Embedded Database" instead of "Symantec Embedded Database"

Check your Task Manager for a processes called "dbsrv11.exe" (or dbsrv12.exe in never version of SEPM). If you have this process running, you know your running Embedded, we are just unsure of the service name.

You can open a command prompt and run "tasklist /SVC" to list processes and their related services.

You can also use a tool like "Process Explorer" from Sysinternals to help you connect the process name to the service name. Or you can also search the registry for the process name -- which should lead you to the service entry for the process, including the service name.

Hope that helps.

can you run the upgrade.bat or repair the SEPM using the add/remove program?

Hello,

There is no "Symantec Embedded Database service", that means you are either using a SQL database and using a Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Enterprise Edition.

Again, how many clients are connecting to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager?

Could you please verify the above things?

Again, would it be possible for you to go ahead with Disaster Recovery Steps in your case?

Here are the steps in the Article below:

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1: Best Practices for Disaster Recovery with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Hope that helps!!!

Hi Geezer105,

If that is SEP 12.1 RU1 Small Business Edition, check out this article and see if it is a match for what you are seeing:
