Hi, it depends by an option

Hi,

it depends by an option in the SEPM console:
Admin>servers>edit properties of the local site>liveupdate tab. There is the option "Number of content revisions to keep:" by default it is 3.
If this number is too small, the SEPM is not able to create the differences (deltas) between the definitions installed in the clients and the ones available in the SEPM.
It it is too big, your HDD will be filled up.
We release 3 set of definitions per day, therefore, to cover a long week-end, I suggest to set this value to 9-12.
Every revision takes about 200 MB (100 MB for the 32 bit version and 100 for the 64 bit version) (C:\program\symantec\SEPM\inetpub\content\{C60DC...} stores the 32 bit defs).
You cannot discard the 64 bit definitions.
If this is enough you can mark this post the solution to close the discussion,

Giuseppe

Hi,LiveUpdate Administrator

Hi,

LiveUpdate Administrator (LUAdmin) 2.x has a Temporary Download Folder, a Downloaded Definitions Storage Folder, a Definitions Test Distribution Folder (optional) and a Definitions Production Distribution Folder.

1. Temp Download Folder
Has generally no content, apart from 1-5 KB.
Folder size grows for downloads, but is cleared each time again. Allow 2GB (max. possible daily download) for this Folder in your total Disk Space Calculation.

2. Downloaded Definitions Storage Folder
Folder has average 3GB, is purged weekly based on Revisions to keep, settable in the LUAdmin GUI.

3. Definitions Test Distribution Folder
Same size as in 4. Definitions Production Distribution Folder. If you use the Folder, double the Space needed in 4.

4. Definitions Production Distribution Folder
EMT64 NAV2K8 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for 64Bit Definitions SEP11, comes once per month)
WIN32 NAV2K8 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for 32Bit Definitions SEP11, comes once per month)

EMT64 SAV10 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for EMT64Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes once per month)
IA64 SAV10 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for IA64Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes once per month)
IA64AP SAV10 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for IA64Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes once per month)
Win32 SAV10 Monthly (+full) >> 250MB (needed for 32Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes once per month)

EMT64 NAV2K8 Daily >> 013MB (needed for 64Bit Definitions SEP11, comes daily)
WIN32 NAV2K8 Daily >> 013MB (needed for 32Bit Definitions SEP11, comes daily)

EMT64 SAV10 Daily >> 010MB (needed for EMT64Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes daily)
IA64 SAV10 Daily >> 010MB (needed for IA64Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes daily)
Win32 SAV10 Daily >> 010MB (needed for 32Bit Definitions SAV10.x, comes daily)

SAV10 Daily Full >> 040MB (needed for All Definitions SAV10.x, comes daily)

Summary:
SEP 11 Monthly SUM >> 500MB
SAV10 Monthly SUM >> 1000MB

SEP11 Daily SUM >> 30MB
SAV10 Daily SUM >> 70MB

SEP & SAV Definitions which come Monthly once >> 1500MB
SEP & SAV Definitions which come Daily once >> 100MB

Based on these Numbers, the Production Distribution Folder will take the following Space on the Harddisk:
1 Day x 1500 MB >> 1500MB
30 Days x 100MB >> 3000MB
Total >> 4500MB

Final Calculation
Temp Download Folder >> 2000MB
Downloaded Definitions Folder >> 3000MB
Definitions Test Distribution >> 4500MB (optional)
Definitions Production Distribution >> 4500MB

Total >> 14GB (optional)
Total >> 10GB (minimum)

I am sorry but Hari is not

I am sorry but Hari is not talking about LiveUpdate Administrator that is an elephant in the machine.

In a standard installation of SEPM (usually LUA is not required), the whole inetpub\content folder is around 600 MB.

Details from my test machine today:
whole folder: 588 MB
32 bit AV definitions (3 revisions): 280 MB
64 bit AV definitions (3 revisions): 272 MB
all the others definitions: 36 MB

But recently i am facing some disk space related issue. i have to delete all temps, old downloaded defs each & every day. SEPM and LUA are not supported on the same server

Just a quick note: though no installer error will prevent admins from installing both SEPM and LUA 2.x to the same physical server, this combination is not recommended or supported.  The two products will place demands on the same limited resources and performance will be below what Symantec Technical Support deems acceptable for a task as important as updates.

Details are in LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on the Same Physical Server

Thanks and best regards,

Mick

With thanks and best regards,

Hi, i don't see the option "Number of content revisions to keep:"  Our company's version is 11.0. Is there any way to solve this problem? Our server's hardisk space is low due to this stupid update (150GB all full!)

Hi,

I guess you have the version 11.0.7xx that has the bug you are describing and it does have the option I have mentioned.
You have to migrate to MR4 (11.0.4000).
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....
I suggest you to call the support to get a better evaluation of your issue because a manual cleaning of your hard disk could be still required.
If you have a small network, the fastest and more reliable solution is to uninstall and reinstall the SEP Manager (of course whith the latest version).
