How to overwrite tape if is possible, if not append if possible?

Is there a way to configure a Backup job on Backup Exec 2010 that overwrite the tape if the tape overwritable and if not, append it if this possible?

You can append to media and overwrite if no appendable media , The vice-vera is not possible .

Does'nt the Append Period settings for the media help you in acheiving the startergy you want ?

Overwrite else Append option is not available in BE. Only below options are available when the

job begins.
