  • 1.  How to perform a server scan using symantec endpoint protection?

If this is a silly question forgive me as I am just curious as a new user. I knew how to get symantec endpoint protection program installed on server and on client computers. I understand we can do a scan on client computer either manually or by a scan policy. I don't know how to run a scan on server that has symantec endpoint protection manager installed as in the server system (I am using windows server 2008 R2) there is no protection shield icon on the lower-right corner to use. What if the server is infected?

It sounds like SEP is not installed on this server? Have you installed it first? If not, you can push a client install to the server from the SEPM console.

    billinma,

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager does not have any built-in protection technologies. It is simply a manager for SEP clients and nothing more.

You will need to install the Symantec Endpoint Protection client onto the server in order for it to be protected. Once installed, you can initiate a full system scan from the client's GUI by double-clicking SEP's gold shield in the system tray, clicking Scan for Threats, and clicking Run Full Scan.

A scan can also be initizlied on a client from the SEPM by right-clicking a client, choosing Run Command on Client, and choosing one of our scan options. NOTE: The client will not receive the command until the next time it checks into the SEPM. (This will vary with whatever you have set the heartbeat interval to.)

    Regards,

Thank you very much James. Your reply really does make sense to me. I was thinking installing client onto the server and for unknown reason it was not installed and I selected silence mode for that time and I guess I will try the other mode.
