Q. Is our Windows Server 2008 already protected by the fact SEPM is installed on it ?
--> No, SEPM is just the management console. It doesn't provide any security for installed OS
Q. what steps are necessary to have this Windows Server 2008 protected ?
--> SEPM is installed then just make sure it is updated with the latest definitions.
After login to the SEPM, on the home tab you can check the status.
To protected Windows 2008 Server you need to install Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) on that machine.
To install SEP you need to export it first through the SEPM.
To export package navigate through the following path
SEPM --> Admin --> Install Package --> Select 64 bit package --> Click on Export
After successful export you can run the setup.exe on Windows 2008 Server
While exporting package you may have to select reboot settings after package deployement & SEP features you may want to install
