This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

We would like to know if is it possible to reconfigure an Altiris DAgent Service on a workstation to point to a diferent Deployment Server.

We need to do that because we are migrating our DS to a new hardware/new OS (the old one was 6.9 SP4 under Windows Server 2003 and the new one is 6. SP5 under Windows Server 2008).

We would like to know if this process is correct:

- From the old DS

- Select computer and select Change Agent Settings > Production Agent

- Change the OLD hostname with the NEW hostname

After some seconds, the client disconnect from the old server and connects to the new one and executes "Agent x86 Update" for changing the agent version (new one is 6.9.496).

Is this action correct? Do we need to do something else?

Thanks.

PS: Sorry for asking here but, is there a similar process for the "Symantec Management Agent"?

yeah that should work.

yeah that should work. However, i would do this in batches at the time so you could see the process work in some of the machines in case of trouble and also to prevent the update dagent network traffic.

Or you can create a new aclient.inp

And run a Copy File To job with a Destination path of setting:aclient.inp

It must have all the settings you want, not just the new DS IP.

The best way for the SMP agent is to use the Settings Policy Advanced tab and specify an alternate location there for your new NS.

Lots of people use DNS aliases they can change to a new server at will.
