How to reduce backup data on Exchange VM backup?

I'm running BE 2012 in a nearly completly virtualized environment (only one application server and the two backup servers are physical).

The environment is setup with one CAS and one MMS, each connect with a Dedup-Device. The goal is to transfer the backup data from the MMS to the CAS by optimized deduplication via an 10 Mb Internet connection (symetric DSL). For that purpose, as least data as possible should be necessary to travel over the Internet connection.

The Exchange server performs monday - thursday incremental backups and friday night a full backup. No backups on saturday, an agent-based tape backup on sunday.

When I observe the amount of data, I saw that each monday the backupvalue is about 3 times as high as on tuesday to thursday.

Hs anyone an idea for this? Are there internal processes on the Exchange server that lead in changes of many blocks in the vm and is it possible to configure them? I dont think that the incomming mails on weekend are resposible for that. I know there are regular processes from Exchange that run all every night and so on.

So, does anyone has an idea for me to reduce the amount of data for backup?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Ralf,

I think the Agent based backup of Exchange taken on Sunday is resetting the Archive bit for Exchange so the next Incremental of AVVI is taking that as Full....

Just for testing purpose can we stop the Agent backups for ones and test....

Hope this piece of Information Helps you... and if it does then mark this response as Solution....!!!
