  • 1.  How to remotely install updates and apps?

    HI,

I am new to using the Altiris NS console 6.5 and would like to use software delivery to install application and updates on remote machines.

What would be the best way to accomplish this task via NS console 6.5?

    Thanks.

Wrong forum. I'll move the thread to the NS forum.

    Hello eaglesec,
Using Software Delivery, Patch Management and Task Server. Do you have software packages already created? A good place to start is the documentation;http://www.altiris.com/Support/Documentation.aspx

As you learn and go along, feel free to ask some specific questions.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Thanks.

Following the documentation for Software Delivery:

I am able to successfully create a test package for Putty.exe on my NS server.
When I logon to my test box I see the putty application open up but it is not saved or installed on the the test machine. It is only able to be accessed the time that it is opened up for me by the NS server.

The NS server shows the software delivery task as being completed.

I am not sure how to specifiy where this app should be installed and how to install it?

I am ultimately trying to install patches other than what shows up in Patch Management. These could be .exe files, .msp files... ect.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You will need to provide the command line you are using to install. The default way NS delivers software is that it copies the files locally and then runs the install.

Here is an excellent article on how to perform patching with software delivery:http://aka-community.symantec.com/community/article/2397/deploying-microsoft-updates-using-inventory-%2526amp%3B-software-delivery-solutions
