  • 1.  How to remove licenses from CMS/SIM?

    Posted Jan 15, 2016 05:11 AM

    Hello,

After installing CMS 7.6 from scratch, install my own licenses (valid until December 2015) and upgrading with my new licenses valid until December 2017 we have 18 licenses installed and only 5 of them applied.

That's good and it is working perfectly but we would like to delete the licenses that not apply to our installation (because they're expired or eval ones).

We've deleted the TXT files from C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\Licenses but this doesn't delete them as SIM show 18 licenses installed, so it is something in the database.

    How can we clean this?

    Thanks!

    These are computer certificates.

On the SMP Server open "mmc.exe"

    Add the "certificates" Snap-In.

Select "Computer Account" and "Local Account"

You will find the licenses (Certificates) at Altiris Licensing.

To know exactly which license it is see the details, f.e.: 1.2.36.8187... (should be last of three) in the content you can read the Solution.

Or just check the expiration date.

You can also run %programfiles%\Altiris\Notification Server\Bin\Tools\RemoveLicense.exe. I'd do it logged in as the Service Account ("Application Identity")

    Hi,

Thanks for the help ... All two answers get me to the place where licenses are stored ;-)

The only doubt I have now is about "pcAnywhere Solution" and "CMDB Solution".

When I installed CMS 7.6 the licenses applied/installed were the first ones (the ones with count 10). Then I've applied the ones merged from licensing portal (5 licenses for 125 workstations). Finally, after the renewal and for 2 years and a problem in the portal that makes impossible to merge the licenses, the licenses sent to me by support (7 products instead of 5).

I don't know if removing these 2 extra licenses will have any impact in my new CMS installation.

    Thanks.

I'd leave them. I think CMDB solution is part of Client Management Suite now. I've seen problems in the past where a client installed the trial Asset Management Suite (AMS) over a working Client Management Suite (CMS) and one or two parts of CMS stopped working when the AMS licences expired even after AMS was uninstalled.
