How to renew my authenticode code signing certificate

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I'm trying to renew my authenticode code signing certificate. I click renew, and all it says is "select a level of security", then "Purchase a different code signing certificate". I don't want a different one, I want to renew what I have. If not possible, tell me why and give me options. This appears like a malfunction that is preventing me from doing anything.

With Code Signing Certificates espeically Microsoft Authenticode you are always given a new certificate even for a "renewal." This is because all certificates are hard coded with a expiration date. The term "Renewal" is just a term that is used to for renewing the name of the certificate which in this case is the name of your organization with the Certificate Authority (CA) you have recieved the certificate from years before.

When Renewing the certificate since you already know what type of certificate you are renewaling just make sure you have the radio button for Microsoft™ Authenticode™ selected. and read its details to make sure this is what you have had before.

The process is technically somewhat the same no matter where you renew the certificate though a partner such as Certs 4 Less or directly though Symantec.

Microsoft™ Authenticode™
These certificates are used with the Microsoft InetSDK developer tools to sign ActiveX controls, .CAB, .EXE and .DLL files, and other potentially harmful active content on Microsoft platforms.
