  • 1.  How to reset the password for Symantec AV corporate edition 10.2, Server Group.

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 10:59 PM
    Hi,
We have Server grade PC HP Proliant ML150 with OS Server 2003 SP2 and for the security we had installed Symantec Antivirus Server Group Ver. V10.1.5.5000.
But now when we try to open the Symantec Console it is asking for username & password also for uninstalling it is asking for same. It was same for the Client PC but when we used “symantec” as user name and “symantec” as a password it worked. Same username & password were used for Server PC’s but it didn’t worked.
So please let us know any other default password for Server Group or any other solution.

    Thanks,
    Prashant

I found it on this page:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2005041217010148?Open&docid=2003022010143248&nsf=ent-security.nsf&view=0

"Reset the Symantec System Center admin user password
You can use the Password Reset Utility to reset any user's password. You must have Administrator access to the primary server of the server group.

To reset the Symantec System Center admin user password
On the computer running Symantec System Center, start Windows Explorer.
    Go to \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Center\Tools.
In the right pane, double-click the IFORGOT.exe file.
In the Primary server field, type the name of the server group's primary server.
In the user field, type admin
In the New Password and Confirm New Password fields, type the new password.
    Click Reset Password.
You may be prompted for a Windows user name and password if you specify a remote server."

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply but problem is not yet solved.

    installed version is V10.1.5.5000.
    - We do not have the Symantec System Center software installed.
The only thing that comes up in Start - Programs is Symantec Client Security - Symantec Antivirus.
The only directory under C:\Program Files\Symantec is Live Update.
    - The "iforgot.exe" does not exist on the hard drive of Srever grade PC and even if it did it requires the "User name" to be known.

If you do not know the password for uninstall, you can modify the registry key and get the uninstallation done

    Go to this key

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security /v LockUnloadServices

Make this value 0, this is the password to stop symantec services.. Simillarly

    reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security /v UseVPUninstallPassword

Make this value 0, this is the password asked while uninstalling...

    Hope this helps,
