how to restore data from a disk

Created: 12 Sep 2013 | 2 comments

hi all,

i'm using BE2012 R2 to backup files into 2 hard disk drives(2T a HDD), then store these backup disks to the bank.

the question is that, if there is a disaster, my server was burnt out, then how can i restore all the data with only the backup HDD.

i have a test with this,

1. install WinServer2008R2, with the same computer name of the original backup server

2. install BE 2012 R2

3. mount the 2 backup HDDs

4. catalog these 2 HDDs

then i got error information,
Final error: 0xe0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

google & search for many knowledge base, i was told that to settings->catalog, uncheck"use storage media base catalogs.", and restart BE services.

I tried, but fail, i took several hours then inform me fail, crazy~~~~~

so , please help for this, how can i restore the data just with the backup HDD?????

Hi,

Check this TN out below as well:

Thanks!

EDIT: And the TN below...you've already disabled the "Use storage media-based catalogs", but the rest of the TN might be relevant:

I would be inclide to look at seeing whether SDR can be used to recover your server (SDR can use USB backup disks as a source althohjgh is sometimes messed up by dissimliar hardware)

Other option is after backup up the media server, after the backup job finishes copy the catalog information (files dated and timed to match the backup job rather than all the catalogs) and copy the BEDB.bak (dumped immediately after the backup) all to the USB disk as well.

Then after you have re-installed backup exec during your recovery, you can reload the BEDB and the catalogs that will enable you to restroe everything else.
